Mr West, my word; You really have formed an absolute legend of an album.2007 Was a superb year for Kanye West. He sold a few albums, won a few awards and became a bit more popular.
Contrastingly, 2008 couldn't have been more difficult; I am, of course, referring to the sudden and tragic death of Kanye's mother, Donda West.
However, these last couple of months of 2008 will most certainly be better for Kanye; countless more awards and an amazing album will most certainly contribute to that.
On with the study of the music!
'Graduation' released in 2007 was a good album for all those hip-hop/rnb lovers who just loved a good beat that they could dance to and a catchy chorus that they could sing along to. In comparison to the masterpiece that is '808s & Heartbreak', 'Graduation' can now be described as an album for hip-hop plebs. Not saying that 'Graduation' wasn't a good album - it was a bloody marvelous album, but '808's' trumps it by a mile; well, at least for me.
The first glimpse we got of this album was 'Love Lockdown' - a song that confused many a person;
Kanye West; current king of popular hip-hop - SINGING?
Wh.. where is the base?
Where are the featured hip-hop artists?
Wh..when does the rapping begin?
Why is there no bling, nor 'club scene' in his new video?
Who the hell is this Kanye West impostor?
After a serious re-evaluation of our lives, we realised that this was the new sound of Kanye West. No more meaningless lyrics, no more random songs such as 'Barry Bonds' on 'Graduation' [seriously? What the hell was that song? The only good thing about it was Lil Wayne but even he couldn't brighten things up as he didn't come in until about 2/3 minutes of the song had gone - not worth the torture.]
Every single song on this album has a meaning, and every single song on this album is of the highest quality.
It is truly original and truly different. The kind of noises and voice-changers heard in 'Love Lockdown' are used almost throughout giving the album a very 'futuristic' style.
The stand-out songs on this album are hard to find as you can play through from song 1 all the way to song 12 [Live Bonus Track] without skipping any songs. My personal faves are 'Heartless' and 'Amazing'. Although 'Bad News', 'Paranoid', 'RoboCop', 'Coldest Winter', 'Say you Will' and 'In my Nightmares' [feat. the beauuuuutiful Lil Wayne ;)] are blinding tracks, too.
Jesus. I think I only missed out two or three tracks there...
Overall; spectacular - quite honestly one of the best albums I have ever had the genuine fortune and pleasure to own and have on Kermit*.
* - Come one guys; you should know by now !! - Kermit the little green 3rd Gen iPod Nano !!
